Analysis of references to Ukraine in connection with its entrance in NATO.
Let’s suppose you’d like to find out, how often Ukraine is mentioned in press in connection with its perspectives of NATO entrance.
Step 1. Login
On the home page of www.integrumworld.com enter your login and password. Then click the button “Sign in”. You will find yourself on the page with the list of the services available. Choose Russian or English language from the list.
Step 2. Entry into the service “Comparative and relative statistics”
Choose Relative statistics on the opening page. The service “Relative statistics” is used for studying the detailed structure of object mentioning in the press and is able to reveal the dependence of mentioning of one object on another.
Step 3. A new query group composing
Choose ADD in the field QUERY GROUP in the second drop-down list and press OK. Name a new query group, for example Украина/ НАТО, and press OK.
Press ADD A QUERY PAIR and enter (Украин* и "вступление в НАТО")/п in the field QUERY 1, Украин* – in the field QUERY 2. By the second query all the publications about Ukraine will be found. By the first query the publication with the references to Ukraine in connection with NATO entrance will be found. Quotes in expressions mean that the phrases will be found in the strict word succession. We use /п for contextual limitation, it means that all the query words will be situated in one sentence. The element * means finding all the words which begin with Украин.
Then name a query pair, for instance Украина и НАТО, choose the color and press OK.
Specify the date range and interval, for example 14.10.2001 – 14.01.2011 with an interval quartely.
Mark the search area, for example all the Russian newspapers.
Step 4. Viewing the results
Click SEARCH and the results will be ready in a moment. The following graph shows that in June, 2008 in more than 120% of publications on Ukraine there were references to its perspectives of NATO entrance. It was the second half of June 2008 when members and Secretary General of the North Atlantic Council made a two-day visit to Ukraine. The purpose of the visit was to promote political dialogue between Ukraine and the alliance. This event caused an outburst of public attention and vigorous debates in the Russian media.
If you’d like to get a report in different formats, you can use the functions Excel report, Text report, Html report at the bottom of the interface. The results in the form of tables will open on separate pages.
The query groups in the service Relative Statistics are automatically saved and can be added and renamed in further work.
